1       Introduction

Adjust default zoom levels for navigational layers

In this topic, you learn how to change the default settings for zoom levels for the different navigational layers to use your preferred zoom level.

We estimate that this will take 3 minutes to complete.

2       Detailed explanation

Matching navigational layers to suitable zoom levels

As you work with adding navigational information to the N-Tracking map, you will find that different layers work better at different map zoom levels.

For an example, you don't need to see the entire continental United States (which displays at the 500 nm zoom level) if you want verify the name of a waypoint over a particular state.

N-Tracking includes defaults for the zoom levels at which the various navigational layers can be used. You may choose to change those default settings according to your own preferences.

To begin your exploration of adjusting default zoom levels used with the various navigational information layers, let's get oriented:

The map is focused on the United States.

The map zoom level is 200 nm.

Interaction 1

Access the Navigational layers in the Layers pane.

Interaction 1 Click the Layers button.

Interaction 1

Interaction 1 Click the NAV Layers tab.

At the 200 nm zoom level, the FIR/UIR slider, the Favorite airports slider, and all the sliders for the options in the lower portion of the tab are inactive. Consequently, you cannot select those layers to enable them.

The Grid Moras layer is active. Enable that layer to see the impact on the map.

By default, the FIR/UIR and Favorite airports layers are available at the 100 nm zoom level and most of the layers after the first four become active only at a 20 nm zoom.

Use these defaults or use the sliders to adjust the zoom levels to your preferences.

Scroll down to see the zoom level settings for other navigational layers.

Interaction 1 Click the vertical scroll bar.

Except for the first four, all the navigational layers are pre-set to be used and to show their information at a 20 nm zoom level.

You can always change these default settings.

Interaction 1Interaction 1

You have two choices: zoom in to 20 nm so you can enable them or change your zoom level settings if it makes sense to you to see this information at a higher zoom level.

As you work with the N-Tracking map and the various navigational layers, you will get a sense of which zoom level works best to show different types of navigational information. Experiment and then set the zoom levels as you prefer.

You can adjust those settings or reset them to default settings at any time.
