1       Introduction

Map, Airline, Airport and Aircraft List Settings

This topic covers the settings you can set for the map mode and the airline and airport settings. It also covers how to configure the aircraft list.

We estimate that this will take 3 minutes to complete.

2       Detailed Explanation

2.1        Map Settings

Map Settings

The map in N-Tracking provides a geographic background on which flights and other data are overlaid. It gives geographic perspective to where the flights are and has some simple zoom in and out controls as well as allowing you to pan around the map. There is currently only one type of map (a topographic map) that can be shown but in the future we will expand on this to include satellite and road maps.

We will now demonstrate to you how to access the map settings, so as more maps are added in the future you will be able to change them.

Interaction 2Interaction 1

Interaction 1 Click the ADMIN dropdown button.

Interaction 2 Click the User Settings menu item.

As you can see there is only one background option for the map here - which is the topographic map. In the future we will add the road map and satellite map backgrounds. Once you have selected the map background, then you need to click on the save button.

Interaction 1

Interaction 1 Click the Save button.

There are actually two different save buttons, both of which work. However, for the purposes of this demonstration we will click on the bottom one of the two.

2.2        Airline Settings

Airline Settings Overview

When you configure the airline settings, you are determining the aircraft that you want to track in the "tracked" section of N-Flight Tracking as is being highlighted with the arrows in the screenshot here. You can only track fleets that you have access to in your subscription.

Those aircraft in the tracked list will be shown in blue on the map.

Notice how on the flight tracking list there is no blue "tracked" flights section at the moment?

Interaction 2Interaction 1

We will now show you how to turn on a tracked flights list in N-Flight Tracking.

Interaction 1 Click the ADMIN dropdown button.

Interaction 2 Click the User Settings menu item.

Interaction 1

Interaction 1 Click the Airlines list item.

Interaction 3Interaction 2Interaction 1

In this example, we only have access to one airline and this list has not been turned on. Let's activate it now.

Interaction 1 Click the AFR Slider button.

Interaction 2 Click the Save button.

We can now return to the map to see what the impact of this change has now been.

Interaction 3 Click the Map button.

Notice how there is now a tracked section in the aircraft list to the left and the Air France aircraft are now shown on the map in blue?

2.3        Airport Settings

Airport Settings Overview

You can track all the aircraft either arriving to, or departing from selected airports. In order to do this though you need to decide which airports you want to track from the airport settings area of N-Flight Tracking. These aircraft will then be shown in the "others" list and have a grey color to them on the map.

Administrators control which airports can be added, so if an airport that interests you is not available for tracking, then you need to contact your administrator and ask them to add it.

The map is currently showing no flights and is positioned roughly on the west coast of the USA. Let's turn on aircraft tacking for flights in and out of Las Vegas.

Interaction 2Interaction 1

Interaction 1 Click the ADMIN dropdown button.

Interaction 2 Click the User Settings menu item.

Interaction 1

Interaction 1 Click the Airports list item.

Interaction 1Interaction 2Interaction 1

Interaction 1 Click the KLAS Slider button.

KLAS McCarran International Airport is just outside of Las Vegas.

Interaction 2 Click the Save button.

We can now go back to the map and see what this has done to our list of aircraft we are tracking.

Interaction 3 Click the Map button.

Flights in and out of KLAS are now being tracked and shown on the map. If we scrolled down on the aircraft list they would be in the "others" section.

Airport Settings (continued)

Once the airport is enabled it can be shown on the map in a highlighted blue/green color (see the airport in the picture that is highlighted with a red rectangle). This only displays though if the layer to display airports has been turned on.

Interaction 1

Notice how no airports are shown. Let's turn this on now in the map layers options.

Interaction 1 Click the Layers button.

Notice that the  tab is selected.
