1       Introduction

Alert Management

In this topic you will learn how to update and activate or deactivate alerting rules for the aircraft in your fleet. It will outline the two levels of alert and how you can modify each of the alerts rules.

We estimate that this will take 2 minutes to complete.

Alerting rules are only applicable to the aircraft in your fleet. There are the following different alerting criteria available to you:

        Signal lost

        New destination

        Minimal flight level during cruise

        Squawk

        Vertical speed

Horizontal and vertical deviation from flight plan

        ETA

Existing rules can be modified by changing the threshold of the alerts and defining an email distribution list.

2       Detailed Explanation

Alert Criteria

There are 6 alert criteria:

Signal Lost: Loss of ADS-B, ACARS or any other data source position for this individual aircraft. There is a possibility to configure the threshold time in minutes.

New Destination: New destination airport activated on FMS.

Minimal flight level during cruise: When below FL150, 20 minutes after take-off or 30 minutes before landing. There is a possibility to configure the threshold flight level.

Squawk: Emergency/distress code on transponder. There is a possibility to modify the transponder code that will raise the alert.

Vertical Speed: Vertical speed during decent phase. There is possibility to configure the threshold vertical speed in feet per minute.

Horizontal and vertical deviation: Should the aircraft deviate from the flight plan.

ETA: Identify when ETA goes beyond initial ETA from arrival aerodrome. There is possibility to configure the threshold time in minutes.

Alert Criteria

For each alert rule there are two levels. The first level is just a "caution" level, which is when the lower value of a threshold has been breached. The second level is a "warning" level, when a higher and more significant threshold has been breached. Therefore more attention must be given to warning alerts than to caution alerts.

Default Alerting Rules

By default, the alerting rule settings are described below:

Signal Lost:

        Warning Level

Loss of Flight Radar feed  and/or ACARS information after 11 minutes. 11 minutes corresponds to the sum of:

  1. One minute: After 1 minute without Flight Radar information, the N-Tracking system asks for ACARS position message
  2. Ten minutes: It is the delay of 10 minutes between 2 ACARS position report

New destination:

        Caution Level

New destination airport activated on FMS because of a diversion etc.

        Minimal flight level during cruise:
Caution level

When the aircraft is flying below FL150, 20 minutes after take-off or 30 minutes before landing.

Squawk:

        Warning level

        Emergency/distress code on transponder

Vertical Speed:

Warning Level - vertical speed exceeded - 7000fpm

Caution Level - vertical speed exceeded - 5000fpm

ETA:

        Caution Level

Last received ETA is beyond 15 minutes from ETA received in OFF message

Clicking on the modification icon for the corresponding rule will enable you to modify the rule.

Interaction 1

Interaction 1 Click the Modification icon button.

Interaction 1

Interaction 1 Click the Threshold field input field.

Email addresses are checked to make sure they follow the standard format of an email address e.g. name@domain.extenstion

Interaction 2Interaction 1

Interaction 1 Enter 10 into the Threshold field.

Interaction 2 Click the Save rule button.

You cannot edit any of the fields that are grayed out. After giving a threshold value the rule should be saved. Note that the rule has not yet been activated, which must be done if an alert should be generated when a threshold value is breached.

You will now be able to activate the rule.
The rules can be activated from the list of alerting rules or from the "Alert rule modification" panel.

Interaction 1

Interaction 1 Click the Activate slider.

When a rule is activated then any alerts that are needed are immediately created.
